East Dunbartonshire Council leader Rhondda Geekie thanked local business and community councils this week after they part-sponsored the Council’s Hanging Basket initiative 2010.
Around £1300 was donated by two Bearsden firms and three Community Councils. These were:
· Bearsden Chiropractic Clinic
· Chartwell Dental Care
· Bearsden North Community Council
· Milton of Campsie Community Council
· Campsie Community Council
Councillor Geekie said, “We are very grateful for the contribution made by these individuals and groups. Hanging baskets have, and continue to be, a popular method of enhancing our town and village centres making them more attractive to residents and visitors alike.
“They are a natural decorative accessory which can ‘brighten up’ any type of environment and produce a feature which positively helps create a more relaxed atmosphere wherever they are located.
“Historically, these baskets were something that the Council provided as we recognised they were an asset which encouraged people into our town centres who. Of course this also helped boost our local economy.”
A total of 200 baskets are currently displayed throughout East Dunbartonshire. They can be viewed until September.
