A total of twenty East Dunbartonshire residents graduated recently from Council employability courses aimed directly at getting them back into the labour market. Nine from the Preparing for Work course and a further 11 students gained certificates for study specifically related to the care sector.
Education Convener, Una Walker said, “Congratulations to everyone who completed the courses. Outcomes from both have been extremely encouraging. Many students have gone on to further study, employment or work in the voluntary sector. We’re delighted with the success rate of these courses and the participation levels.”
Subjects covered in the Getting Started In Care course included: First Aid, Moving & Handling techniques, Food Hygiene and Mental Health First Aid. The Preparing for Work course went over areas such as Confidence Building, Basic ICT Skills, Financial Awareness and Job Searching.
Many of the students benefited from work placements throughout East Dunbartonshire.
Congratulations must also go to students from the Ravenswood Project who graduated from an eight-week personal development training programme covering: Goal Setting, Controlling Stress, Motivation, Assertiveness and Interviewing skills.
Anyone wishing to take part should contact the Learning & Skills Team at Kirkintilloch Campus tel: 0141 777 3089. No previous qualifications are necessary. Students must be currently unemployed and resident in East Dunbartonshire.
